Febuary 2025

Next meeting: Feb. 27 @7:30pm

Click here for the SAS Picture of the Month (February 2025)!

Every night this February it should be possible to see at least 6 planets in the night sky. Throughout most of the month, Jupiter and Venus will be bright in the night sky, with Mars and Saturn visible as well. Uranus and Neptune will be up and about too, but obviously, you will need a telescope to be able to see them. Towards the end of the month Mercury will start to become visible near the western horizon, making it technically possible to see all 8 planets in one night!

Look for the “Snow Moon”

This month, Venus (the Goddess of Love) shines at her brightest for the year, right in time for Valentine’s Day. Shining at magnitude -4.6, it’s bright enough to cast shadows!

Perfect time to do DSO imaging, especially with the longer nights!

Don’t miss these opportunities to see the Chinese space station!!!

A spectacular pass on Feb. 23 @ 6:37 PM EST – moving directly overhead from W to E, the station will be brighter than Saturn (mag. -2.1) and will be grazing first Venus and then Mars!

Two nights later on Feb. 25 @ 6:18 PM EST, it will do the same, except this time grazing Venus and then Jupiter!
